Domestic violence is not just confined to the heterosexual community, but often occurs in the lesbian community as well. We are bombarded with the archetypal image of a battered heterosexual woman being abused by her husband, but domestic violence does not just happen to straight couples. Domestic violence statistics show that violence is just as prevalent in gay and lesbian relationships as it is in heterosexual couples. In fact, 30% of couples struggle with domestic violence of some sort.
International Women’s Day is a day to remember the issues that face women 365 days of the year. In celebration of this day, and the strength of the female gender, the Avon Foundation for Women worked with actress Megan Fox to spread awareness of domestic violence.
Avon Foundation has launched the new Empowerment bracelet (£3) which features the infinity symbol, and all proceeds go to the charities Women’s Aid and Refuge to help all victims of domestic violence.
‘The Avon Empowerment Tennis Bracelet is a simple way to raise funds to help break the cycle of violence against women,’ said Megan Fox, star of This Is 40 and the face of Avon Instinct fragrances. “In honour of International Women’s Day, I urge you to join me in making a difference by purchasing, wearing or giving the Empowerment Bracelet to help women everywhere live a life free from violence.’
